New 2024 Mustang Turned Into 1,300-Horsepower Formula Drift Car

Unveiled last September and set to go on sale this summer, the seventh-generation 2024 Ford Mustang will offer a wild Dark Horse model including a pair of track-only variants called Dark Horse S and Dark Horse R, the latter designed as a fully homologated race car.

Taking the new Mustang to the extremes, Ford and RTR Vehicles have created three explosive units to compete in Formula Drift. They’ve also announced today that two-time champion Vaughn Gittin Jr. is returning to the sport after a one-year absence.

Additional competition enhancements include more than 1,300 horsepower and enhanced suspension development. Unfortunately, Ford and RTR Vehicles didn’t provide details about how they managed to increase output this much.

It’s a great opportunity, though, to remind you all that the 2024 Mustang comes with a segment-first hand brake developed with the help of Gittin Jr. It’s an electronic system that’s manually engaged and makes drifting easier. Ford says it can be modulated by the driver based on their experience and skills.
