2022 Ford Explorer, versatile and sporty

The Ford Explorer is the most spectacular three-row SUV in the Ford family. Its multiple versions offer the versatility, driving pleasure and sportiness that SUV enthusiasts appreciate. For 2022, the arrival of an adventure-oriented Timberline model will be perfect for the family that focuses on an economical hybrid engine, on sportiness with the ST versions or on the more versatile Explorer versions.

These different options make the Ford Explorer the most attractive, most competent and most stylish SUV on the market. Not to mention the many onboard technologies, in terms of safety, entertainment and comfort, that give the crossover an edge over its competitors.

New features in 2022

The recently renewed Ford Explorer has received numerous improvements over the months, allowing it to take on new challenges. The last update introduced an economical hybrid version, which combines a naturally aspirated 3.3-litre V6 with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery under the passenger compartment. Its total output is an exceptional 318 horsepower! But even more outstanding is the fuel economy, which is estimated at 9.6 litres per 100 kilometres in combined mode. All-wheel drive and a 10-speed automatic transmission are standard on this version, as well.

You can also choose the power of the ST version, with a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 that unleashes 400 horsepower. However, if you don't need the extra power, you can opt for the ST-Line version, which gets the design and chassis upgrades of the regular ST, but keeps the base four-cylinder engine, the 2.3-liter Ecoboost that still provides 300 horsepower. Twenty-inch wheels, aerodynamic elements and a 12-speaker Bang and Olufsen sound system are among the features of this version.

There's the new Timberline model, which gives the Explorer longed-for off-road capability by increasing ride height and clearance angles and adding a Torsen limited-slip differential, recalibrated suspension, off-road tires, underbody protection and the beefy shocks of the retuned Explorer Police Interceptors.

And finally, the Ford Explorer also offers more mainstream versions, whose mission is to be the ultimate family vehicle.

A comfortable interior

The 2022 Ford Explorer, regardless of its version, features a spacious interior, offering room and space for both passengers and luggage. The third row is convenient, and when folded, becomes one of the largest cargo areas in the class.

Depending on the version, the Explorer is fitted with quality materials in sought-after colours and themes adapted to the offered version. The ST, for example, includes a cockpit with modern colours, while the Timberline versions are more oriented towards warmer ensembles. All of them, however, combine quality assembly with spectacular technology.

Every Explorer comes standard with Ford's Sync3 infotainment interface. It responds well to inputs and swipes gestures. The icons are easy to understand and use, and the content of the functions has unapologetic ergonomics. The system includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as an effective voice command feature. The 12.3-inch digital dashboard included on higher trims is a nice touch; it even changes design depending on one of seven possible driving modes selected.

A capable SUV

With efficient all-wheel drive, and seven driving modes that allow you to move around on any surface without worry, the Ford Explorer ensures versatility and safety. Versatility because its ground clearance enables it to tackle the most demanding trails, while its sleek design allows it to find its place in urban areas.

Versatile also because it has a towing capacity that makes it a faithful companion on the road. In its hybrid version, the 2022 Explorer is capable of towing up to 5,000 pounds. This capacity increases to 5,300 pounds with the 2.3-litre engines and 5,600 pounds with the others.

It's also safe because the Ford Explorer comes standard with the Co-Pilot 360 system. It combines driving assistance technologies such as lane tracking, blind-spot detection and a rear-view camera. The optional Co-Pilot 360 Assist Plus system adds lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control functions, among others.

With its multiple versions, exceptional functions, and space for the whole family, or all the camping equipment you can dream of, the 2022 Ford Explorer is, more than ever, the ideal companion for your family adventures.
